CARRICKGOLLOGAN, RATHMICHAEL WOODS & THE SCALP 19 APR- DUBLIN
Enjoy a section of the Dublin Mountains on this morning hike along woods and open trail as you pass by old leadmines and ring forts. We will start our hike by having our opening circle and then make our way to the top of Carrickgollogan (Carrig an Olagóin meaning laminating rock). Here we will enjoy views of the Dublin and North Wicklow coast line aswell as some of the Wicklow and Dublin Mountains. When we make our way down, we will go for a woodland walk through Rathmichael Woods where we get to see the remains of an old fort. As we leave the woodlands, we make our way uphill to visit the chimney and tunnel of an old leadmine with beautiful views. We follow the trail to Barnaslingan Woods, which means top of the shoulder blades ie rocks, that is situated on the eastern slope of 'The Scalp' and is a beautiful feature in the Dublin Mountains and along the Dublin Mountains Way. We can stop to enjoy the view on the rocks before heading back to the car park to say our goodbyes. Please note that at present (end of February) Barnaslingan woods is still closed due to fallen trees from Storm Daragh, if this is still the case in April the hike will be reduced to not include Barnaslingan.
